What drives our members to volunteer?
What motivates them to give up their free time to volunteer for the VFW with no financial reward?
What do they get out of it? Does their volunteer experience change their life?
The answers are numerous. It might be something as simple as personal growth. It could be to help Veterans in general, but specifically in our community. Maybe it's to support something they believe in. Just having fun might be the reason. Perhaps they have skills to share with others or want to learn a new one. Meeting new friends and developing helpful contacts might be the motivation. The answers go on-and-on. But, probably the greatest reason is the personal value achieved in being able to act on deeply held beliefs about the importance of the VFW organization.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of individuals that volunteer their time to help in our activities. The list of projects they contribute to is long and our VFW Post 3282 could not exist without their help. Among the areas they supply valuable service to are the building maintenance and upkeep, grounds maintenance, bingo, cooking, serving meals, setting up and bussing tables, writing items for the Post, and on-and-on. But, let's not forget that every elected and appointed position in the Post is on a volunteer basis except for a very few. Even those paid employees go far beyond what is expected of them.
Each month we select a person to recognize as the "Volunteer of the Month". We post pictures, a short background of them and reasons they volunteer for our viewers to see. This, in no way, is intended to minimize to contribution of all other volunteers.
